Hôtel de Balzac, rue Fortunée (now rue Balzac)

Victor DARGAUD

Date : 1880

Matériaux et techniques : oil on canvas

Description : Victor Dargaud painted the private mansion on rue Fortunée (today's rue Balzac) which Balzac bought on September 28, 1846 and which he decorated with research and refinement as evidenced by the marquetry door in the living room (go see it in the desk's room in the museum).

Becoming a widow in 1841, Ève only married Honoré de Balzac in March 1850, five months before the writer's death, then spent the rest of her days in this hotel which was destroyed a few years after his death.
